Lenexa Medical has appointed Total Communications as a medical device distributor to offer its LenexaCARE pressure injury prevention technology to the aged care sector throughout Australia and New Zealand. Total Communications, a division of Australia’s leading medical suppliers Paragon Care Group, has signed a Distributor Agreement for a preliminary 1000 units of LenexaCARE, planned for aged-care and health facilities over the next 3 years.

Pressure injuries (PIs) are mostly preventable yet remain a devastating complication for patients in hospital and aged care settings, particularly where a person is immobile for a prolonged period. When a pressure injury advances to a deep wound, it can become life threatening. This global issue has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and cost the Australian public hospital and aged care system over $9 billion in 2020.

The current standard of care is a subjective assessment that can have varying accuracy levels, is time consuming, requires additional staff and is disruptive to patients. LenexaCARE is a pressure injury management system, which assists clinicians and carers by providing targeted real time monitoring for patient position, thus enabling personalised pressure injury prevention.

“LenexaCARE is an unobtrusive fabric-based sensor beneath the mattress cover which provides remote individualised information for clinicians and carers to enable early and targeted pressure injury prevention, providing the opportunity to intervene at the right time,” said Ajit Ravindran, Co-Founder and CEO at Lenexa Medical.

“This second pair of eyes will significantly reduce the cost to the health system and more importantly benefit patients, clinicians and families who consequently suffer the painful burden of pressure injuries.”

“The LenexaCARE technology significantly improves the connection between patient, clinician and carers particularly during challenging times such as those we are seeing in COVID,” said Geoff Gamble, General Manager of Total Communications.

“The LenexaCARE solution fits with Total Communication’s mission to identify and provide the best available communication tools for community wellbeing.”
