Silverchain Group celebrated its 130th anniversary this week, highlighting a century-long commitment to innovative home-based healthcare solutions. The organisation, which began in 1894 as a local nursing service, has evolved into a national entity serving 140,000 clients annually across Australia.
At a celebratory event held at Government House Adelaide, Silverchain Group Board Chair Anne Skipper AM reflected on the organization’s history. “Our legacy has instilled in us the importance of embracing innovation in the way we work as well as tirelessly advocating for our clients,” Skipper said. She emphasised how Silverchain has consistently adapted to changing times, from world wars to the Great Depression, always focusing on delivering high-quality care at home.
Chief Executive Dale Fisher AM highlighted Silverchain’s pioneering spirit, particularly noting their groundbreaking initiative in the 1980s to offer end-of-life care at home. “Our palliative care services in Adelaide and Perth have helped generations of Australians to die in the comfort of their own home,” Fisher stated.
The organisation’s growth has been substantial, particularly in the last decade. Following a merger with RDNS in 2011, Silverchain expanded its services to Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. The recent acquisition of KinCare in July 2023 further solidified its national presence, with the organisation now employing 5,900 people across various healthcare disciplines.
Looking to the future, Fisher emphasised Silverchain’s commitment to technological innovation in healthcare delivery. “We are working with global leaders in health care technology to develop an innovative virtual care monitoring system and have expanded the use of smart glasses,” she said. These initiatives, along with partnerships with universities and international care leaders, aim to shape the next generation of home care services.
“For 130 years, our clients have welcomed us into their communities. Our committed care and clinical teams have championed our clients’ independence, their right to choose where they’re cared for, and supported their health and wellbeing,” Fisher said.
