The New South Wales government is embarking on a major initiative to attract and develop medical talent, with applications opening for the 2025 Junior Medical Officer (JMO) recruitment campaign.

This drive aims to bolster the workforce of Australia’s largest public health system, building on the success of previous years.

Key points of the campaign:

  1. Applications open on 16 July 2024, for JMOs who have completed two postgraduate years.
  2. Over 5,800 JMOs were employed in 2024, with doctor numbers increasing by 246 this year.
  3. Positions are available across various specialties, including general medicine, intensive and emergency care, pain management, psychiatry, pathology and more.
  4. The main recruitment round closes on 6 August 2024, with a second round from 30 September 2024 to 17 January 2025.

Premier Chris Minns highlights the opportunity: “This is a great opportunity for junior doctors across Australia to work for the largest public health system in the country, gaining hands on experience with the best of the best in the medical profession and building a better NSW for all.”

Health Minister Ryan Park emphasises the educational aspects: “These Junior Medical Officers will have the opportunity to work with world-class senior clinicians, completing rotations across different settings and geographic locations and working within our state-of-the-art facilities.”

The campaign reflects the government’s commitment to developing a robust medical workforce. Minister Park adds, “The NSW Government is focused on supporting postgraduate education and training for the state’s Junior Medical Officers to ensure that our medical workforce can continue to meet the unique and growing health needs of the people of NSW.”

This recruitment drive represents a significant investment in NSW’s healthcare future, offering young doctors unparalleled opportunities for professional growth and development within a world-class health system.
