AICD welcomes landmark aged care bill introduction

Share

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has welcomed the introduction of the Aged Care Bill into the Federal Parliament.

The agreement reached between the Government and the Opposition represents a significant breakthrough that will pave the way for crucial reforms in the aged care system.

The AICD acknowledges the bipartisan effort to deliver this landmark Bill, including urgently needed funding reform to achieve a more sustainable aged care sector into the future.

The AICD supports the introduction of a duty on providers and a rights-based framework, which are included in this Bill.

We note the Government has listened to the sector’s concerns around poorly designed criminal penalties for individual aged care directors and managers, which would have served as a serious deterrent to qualified, skilled directors and managers taking up roles within aged care.

The AICD would like to thank the Opposition for their role in achieving this outcome and their ongoing support for the sector.

The AICD will work through the details of the Bill and we look forward to engaging in further consultations during the parliamentary process.
