New health services come to Harvey’s revamped senior hub

A major upgrade to the Harvey Senior Citizens Centre has delivered a modern, inclusive community hub, now known as Harvey Connect, supporting more than 300 local seniors with improved access to health, social and wellbeing services.

The project, led by the Shire of Harvey and backed by a $610,000 contribution from the Cook Government, aims to provide a welcoming, fully accessible space for people aged 65 and over across the Harvey district.

Key improvements include modern accessibility upgrades, new amenities, and a functional clinic room, allowing health and community services to be delivered locally, reducing the need for seniors to travel long distances for basic care.

“These upgrades will help meet the current and future needs of the Harvey seniors’ population,” said Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson. “The Cook Government recognises the importance of quality regional infrastructure which allows senior residents to have strong community connections.”

The refreshed centre is now active each week with social programs, wellbeing activities and support services, coordinated through a newly built administration office that streamlines operations and volunteer management.

Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk said the revitalised space enhances not only infrastructure but also wellbeing for older Western Australians.

“The centre revitalisation provides significant benefits by enhancing community wellbeing and strengthening support services for seniors in the community,” she said. “We want to support our older Western Australians to live their best life as they age.”

The inclusion of a clinic room was highlighted as a particularly important addition, enabling visiting health professionals to provide services directly to the community.

“The addition of a functional clinic room will also ensure seniors do not have to travel long distances for health and community service appointments,” McGurk added.

South West Minister Don Punch said the centre plays a crucial role in building inclusive communities.

“Upgrading the Harvey Senior Citizens Centre will help ensure those who use the facility are not only provided with the support they need but a place where they can make meaningful connections,” he said. “Seniors in WA want to live a happy life filled with purpose, meaning and connection.”

The revitalised Harvey Connect is now positioned as a central point for seniors across the region to access services, social opportunities and support—all in one place.
