An amazing opportunity exists to be part of a wonderful program as a Preschool Vision Screener, and to join our dedicated team.

 

The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network and the Statewide Eyesight Preschool Screening Program (StEPS) is looking for two candidates for the role of “Vision Screener” to provide screening services for children throughout the Illawarra/Shellharbour Local Health District.

 

The roles are both permanent part time positions, the first being 8 hours per week spread over two days (4 hours per day) based at Shellharbour Hospital. The second being 16 hours per week spread over 4 days (4 hours per day) based at Wollongong Hospital. Shifts are between 9am-1pm.

 

Previous experience working with children in a professional volunteer or employed capacity is a must with supporting references. Would suit those looking for part time employment on a long term basis. No experience in vision screening is necessary and all training will be provided. Must have full NSW drivers license with own vehicle.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Conducting vision screening in preschool and child care facilities throughout South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD). No experience in vision screening is necessary as full training is provided.
  • Direct hands-on experience working or supervising 3-6 year old children.
  • Highly effective and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work both in a team and individually with limited supervision.
  • Ability and knowledge in handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to communicate with parents who may be distressed in a professional manner.
  • Good computer skills including the use of excel and the willingness to learn new IT systems and programs as per the needs of the program.
  • Full NSW Driver’s licence with own transport.

From 30th November 2021 onwards, all applicants for the Hospice Housekeeper position are to provide evidence of first and second dose of a COVID-19 vaccination If you have a medical reason and cannot be vaccinated:

 

  • A COVID-19 Vaccine Medical Contraindication form must be completed by a GP or Medical Practitioner.
