The Position

St John of God Geelong Hospital is currently seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced Patient Care Assistants to support our award winning Emergency Department. Patient Care Assistants contribute to the delivery of a high standard of patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team. Duties include assisting with manual handling and patient transport and providing support to nursing caregivers.

Positions will be offered on a permanent or casual basis, with hours (36 – 76 hours per fortnight) and employment status to be negotiated at interview. This is a night duty position, and all shifts will take place between 2300 and 0830. The successful candidates will be expected to have flexibility to work across a range areas within the hospital to support after hours operational requirements.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Certificate III in Health Service Assistant (Client/Patient Services) or similar; or currently studying in a health related field at a tertiary level.
  • Demonstrated well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to identify work priorities and plan to meet them.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of principles of manual handling.
  • Knowledge of basic cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Food handling skills including hygiene standards.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Quality Improvement.
  • Awareness of current Occupational Safety & Health and Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation.
